Mailing list permanently disabled
We regret to inform you that we have permanently disabled the mailing
list; we will no longer be offering this service. Our provider is not
solving the problem and we don’t have time to pursue it or to change
providers.
We are aware that we reached a lot of people with the mailing
list, because as most of you have indicated, it is far more convenient
to have the DWOTD pop up in your mail client, than to actively check for
a new DWOTD. However, even though we obviously want to distribute the
DWOTD to as many people possible, sending out the DWOTD by email never
truly connected us with the DWOTD community.
You did send us useful feedback, but us then replying to emails while not sharing the information with the
whole DWOTD community has turned out to be an inefficient and
unsatisfactory experience despite your involvement!
In order to
interact more with our DWOTD readers, we choose to emphasize this blog
as the medium of choice.
Using RSS
If you would rather not frequently visit this blog, you can use an RSS
reader and add the DWOTD RSS feed to ‘have the DWOTD delivered to you’.
It is also possible to read the DWOTD in your mail client using RSS, at
least it is in Outlook2007. Steps on how to enable this are available
through the DWOTD menu in the right column.
DWOTD on Twitter
Oh, and we have also started to publish DWOTD tweets on Twitter: random messages from
Sander, Marc or Laura, about Dutch, us or the DWOTD. Check it out at
www.twitter.com/dwotd.
Thanks for reading the DWOTD, we write it for you!!
Sander, Marc, Laura
And another neat way to make sure you’re up-to-date with your essential DWOTD is to add it to your iGoogle page. The new words pop-up automatically and you just click on them to open or expand them:
http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=http://feeds.feedburner.com/DWOTD&source=imag
Works for me!
Thanks Chris! If anybody else has suggestions for alternatives to the mailing list, let us know!
Sander
I always used the RSS feed, put in my browser (Firefox). This way I don’t need an extra RSS-program, and with one click I can see if there’s a new word!
well thats a shame, thank you for all your hard work…i will miss it, add me to your list if you start it up again
I’ve only ever subscribed to this great blog by RSS so I won’t miss any email list
Do people still check each site and blog they’re interested in, daily, individually? Who has the time???
RSS is efficient and nice towards people – and requires a lot less administration! Me myself get all of them into my Thunderbird setup (where I also have my email accounts arriving).
I have not used it, but http://www.feedmyinbox.com claims to email you RSS feed items. Sounds like it should fit the bill, and it’s free (for small users).
