Literally a "gebruiksaanwijzing" is a "direction" ("aanwijzing") of use ("gebruik").
Examples:

("I’m unable to set/program the dvd player, do you know where the manual is?")
- "U kunt de gebruiksaanwijzing ook downloaden op www.philips.nl ."

Hi Steph, good question, I forgot to mention ‘handleiding’. In all the examples above, you can use ‘handleiding’ as a synonym for ‘gebruiksaanwijzing’.
However, there is a difference between the two and that is that ‘handleiding’ can also be used for a guidance document in general.
Example:
- ‘Handleiding archivering DWOTDs’
(‘Guidance (document) on archiving of DWOTDs’)
A ‘gebruiksaanwijzing’ is always for a device or machine.
