Ruzie "Ruzie" is the general word for a quarrel/fight  between people. You can also use it when people are arguing but it has to be serious. If not, you can say that there is 'onenigheid' (disagreement) or that they have a 'geschil' (dispute). When two people are having a serious argument we say that they "have" ruzie: "ruzie hebben". The act of arguing/fighting is "ruzie maken", or you can use the verb "ruziën". Picking a fight is "ruzie zoeken". Ready for some "ruzie"? 🙂

– "Let maar niet op hen, zij hebben aan de lopende band ruzie!" 
("Don't mind them, they are fighting with every chance they get!")

– "Er is altijd ruzie tussen die twee, hoe lang blijven ze nog bij elkaar vraag ik me af!" 
("They are always fighting, how long will they stay together I wonder!" Lit. "There is always quarrel between the two…")

– "Hebben julie weer ruzie?"- "Ja, en ik weet niet waarom! Het lijkt wel of ze bij alles wat ik zeg boos wordt!" 
("Are you (guys) fighting again?" – "Yes, and I don't know why! It seems that everything I say makes her angry!" Lit. "It seems as if she gets angry with everything I say.")

– "Wordt het niet eens tijd dat jullie de ruzie bijleggen?" – "Dat zou het beste zijn, maar alles op z'n tijd!" 
("Isn't it about time that you patch up the quarrel?" – "That would be the best, but there is a proper time for everything!")

– "Zoek je ruzie of zo? Maak dat je wegkomt, want ruzie kun je krijgen! Je bent gewaarschuwd!" 
("Are you looking for trouble or what? Get (the hell) out of here, because trouble is what you can get! You have been warned!")

Expressions:
– "Een knallende ruzie": a hell of a row.
– "Ruzie schoppen": to have a row/fight, to cause trouble.

Example:
– "Supporters die alleen ruzie schoppen zijn niet welkom in het stadion."
("Supporters who only want to (pick a) fight are not welcome in the stadium.")

– "Slaande ruzie hebben": to have a blazing row. "Slaande" is derived from "slaan": to hit.
